Nutritional Counseling
Making Peace with Food and Body
Specializing in eating disorder recovery and intuitive eating, my goal is to help you to develop your ability to connect with, and honor, your body’s individual needs for nourishment and movement. This journey can be very personal, which is why choosing the right dietitian for you is so important. Nutrition counseling will help you to develop skills to navigate challenges around food and body image, make positive changes, and break free from diet culture. Together we will find a balanced approach to food and movement so that you have more energy to focus on other important things in your life and ultimately to THRIVE.
Diabetes and Eating Disorders
Research shows that eating disorders are more common among individuals type 1 and type 2 diabetes than those without diabetes. Treatment for diabetes while supporting eating disorder recovery is a delicate balance and few healthcare professionals specialize in both fields.
Getting Started
Because the treatment process for nutritional healing includes delving deep into emotions and experiences surrounding food and body image, getting started may seem a bit daunting. I understand that which is why I offer a 15-20 minute complimentary Discovery Call. During this time we can get to know each a little bit and I can answer any questions you may have about moving forward.
What To Expect During Treatment
Preparing For Your First Appointment
Prior to scheduling your first appointment, check out this Welcome Handout, which includes information about my approach, visit types, and fees.
For all video appointments, please make sure to find a private space for the appointment where you feel comfortable talking and sharing about what is important to you.
Initial Nutrition Consultation
This is a great opportunity to get to know each other even better and answer any questions you might have. Together, we will complete a nutrition assessment to learn more about you as a person, your nutritional habits, previous experiences with food, weight, and body image. Then we will discuss your nutrition goals and what you hope to get out of working together.
Follow-Up Sessions
Scheduled at your convenience, although most clients opt for weekly or bi-weekly follow-up sessions initially to help establish consistency and build rapport. These sessions provide ongoing support, skill building, and valuable resources. Food exposures on an individual basis may be incorporated and together we will come up with a plan for follow-up visits that best meets your individual needs.
Office Policies
Cancellation policy – 24-hours notice (one full business day) is required. Cancellations not following this policy will be billed 50% of the scheduled fee as there would not be adequate time to schedule a new client session during your reserved session time.
Insurance
I do not accept insurance at this time. Clients pay at the time of the services rendered and may request a superbill (like a fancy receipt) that they can use to submit to their insurance providers for potential reimbursement. It can be helpful for you to call your insurance company ahead of time to see what benefits your plan may have regarding reimbursement eligibility.
